Eating Disorders

Our therapists use collaborative and evidence-based approaches for the treatment of eating disorders and disordered eating. Some of these treatments include CBT, DBT and ACT. We also use strategies from specialized therapies like CBT-E and RO-DBT. CBT-E is a form of cognitive therapy specifically designed for eating disorder treatment, and RO-DBT is a form of DBT designed for disorders of overcontrol.

Additionally, we work from the Health at Every Size (HAES) paradigm, which is weight-inclusive and weight neutral. The paradigm emphasizes self-acceptance and has a focus on behaviour change. We also incorporate Intuitive Eating principles when appropriate. At APPS Inc. we value inclusive and trauma-informed care.

RECOVERY IS POSSIBLE

Eating disorders are characterized by persistent difficulties in eating behaviours, as well as related thoughts and emotions. They affect people of all genders, ages, body sizes, classes, abilities, races and ethnic backgrounds.

Eating Disorder diagnoses that we work with include but are not limited to, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, rumination disorder, ARFID, as well as other specified feeding and eating disorders (OSFED).

You do not need a formal diagnosis of an eating disorder to reach out for help. If you feel like your relationship with food or your body could improve, one of our therapists can work together with you to build a better relationship.

Some of the difficulties that people may present with are body image concerns, fears related to weight, fears related to specific foods, rigid eating patterns, fears related to health, a history of chronic dieting, binging, purging, compulsive exercise, and social isolation.
