Therapy Modalities

Collaboration is a key component to the therapy process, and the therapy techniques and styles used will be tailored to your unique therapy goals and needs. We also value evidence based treatment, and are committed to continued learning and training. Here are a few modalities that Ashley may use while working with you.

DBT is a style of therapy that balances the ideas of change and acceptance. DBT can be especially helpful for those struggling with self-harm and thoughts of suicide, and has also been shown the be helpful with eating disorder behaviours. DBT introduces the skills of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. Ashley is trained in comprehensive DBT through Behaviour Tech, is trained in RO-DBT, which is a specialized form of DBT that is effective for working with disorders of over-control, including Anorexia.

CBT focuses on the idea that our thoughts, emotions and behaviours are all connected to each other. CBT strategies focus on identifying thought patterns and challenging unhelpful beliefs. A specific technique in CBT is Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), which is the gold standard for OCD treatment. Ashley is certified in CBT-E, a specialized modality of therapy for the treatment of eating disorders.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is a method of therapy that has a focus on mindfulness and exploring a person’s values system. Through ACT clients cultivate psychological flexibility and learn to live in alignment with their values. Ashley has advanced training in ACT.

Ashley is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and is trained in a variety of methods for the treatment of trauma and PTSD. Trauma-Informed care is an established practice that can dramatically improve the outcomes for individuals in therapy.
Some technique that may be incorporated into treatment are relaxation training, self-regulation, somatic practices, exposure and narrative strategies.

Intuitive Eating is a self-care framework that balances emotion, logic and intuition. Introducing intuitive eating concepts can be a powerful step on the journey to healing your relationship with food and body. Ashley is currently completing her training to become a Certified Intuitive Eating Counsellor.
